Youth Stuff

"Mission:Possible" was the SALCA camp's 53rd edition. Each day campers were challenged with a possible mission, like "letting go of grudges", and "knowing that things that seem impossible are very possible if we TRUST the one who leads us." Songs were taught and sung with gusto. Games were played with intensity and joy. Crafts were created with interest and skill. Food was shared at mealtimes that began and ended with, what else, prayer.
Evening campfires became celebrations in prayer as campers prayed for important parts of their lives: "that my dad would come to believe in You, Lord, that my parents divorce would not happen, that my grandma would have a peaceful death, that my brother would stop using drugs." Each night campfire was accented with tears and sobbing as campers prayed for friends, neighbors, classmates, and family. It was a wonderful camp for our campers from New Spirit.
Thank you to the members of New Spirit who support the aluminum can recycling ministry here. This year we were able to offer $100/ camper off the registration costs. Thank you for your sharing in this important youth ministry.

We will begin our pre-event studies this month to prepare us for the New Orleans experience. Now with fuel prices soaring, we will need to reconfigure our total cost estimates. In one year our youth will be boarding a flight to New Orleans along with 45,000 youth and adults for five days of:
Jesus, Justice, 'n' Jazz
To attend, youth are expected to be actively involved with the Youth ministry of New Spirit, participating in whole congregational events, and worshipping regularly.
